Issue credit notes
Use a Credit Note to make corrections to previously issued Invoices
If you need to correct a previously issued invoice, you can issue a credit note to maintain an audit trail. You can create credit notes from scratch, or against issued invoices.
To create a credit note, view a sent invoice and select Create credit note
in the top right. Next, select the line items on the invoice that you want to credit to your customer. The credit note will include the related invoice number, date and credit amount.
The Credit Note Editor provides the same flexibility as the Invoice editor. Any credited line item can be adjusted until the credit note is finalized.
Create a credit note
- Go to the invoice you want to credit and select
Create credit note
.
- Next, select ‘edit line items’ to select the items to credit.
- Preview the credit note PDF
- Finalize the credit note and issue it to your customer
Adding cash credits
When you’re issuing a credit note to your customer, you have the option to top up their balance with a cash credit for the credited amount. You can view available credits in the credit grant section on each customer’s detail page. Available cash credits are automatically applied to subsequent invoices until all cash credits are used up.
Alternatively, you can issue credit notes to correct issued but unpaid invoices. In this case, your customer will need to reconcile the credit note and previously issued invoice to pay the correct amount.
